The Cheshire Show
17th & 18th June 2008
The largest County Show in the North West.
Held at Tabley House, Knutsford.
Nick Harper, recognised as one of Britain’s finest and most accomplished acoustic guitarists and acerbic lyricists, makes two ventures to Cheshire in the coming weeks. On Saturday June 14 he will take part in the Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival alongside a host of international and local artists in this three-day event. Nick will play at the British Legion building, Middlewich, at 8pm. Tickets £10. www.midfest.org.uk
On Saturday July 12 he will play at Arley Hall & Gardens, Northwich, in a spectacular open-air event with firework finale. Also on the bill are rising folk artist Seth Lakeman and 3 Daft Monkeys, and veteran folk/punk band The Levellers. Tickets £27.50 advance. www.imlconcerts.co.uk
Nick Harper, son of folk legend Roy Harper, is at the forefront of a new generation of acoustic performers and widely acclaimed as one of the country’s finest guitarists. Dubbed the ‘acoustic Hendrix’, his unique style, distinctively soulful voice and passionate delivery (that place him somewhere between Rufus Wainwright and Jeff Buckley) combine for a live performance that is at one spontaneous, enthralling and emotionally-charged. Biting satire, charmingly caustic wit and covers of anything from Zappa to Zeppelin, place Harper a league apart from anyone you may have seen or heard before. "If you've never seen [Harper] live, you're missing out on one of the musical phenomenons of our age." Glasgow Herald.

From approx 1200 until 1756 the Cheshire Minstrels came on the Feast day of St John the Baptist to the Church of St John the Baptist in Chester, the oldest Church in the City and its original Cathedral to attend Holy Mass and to renew their licences to play their trade. On 21 June 2008 the Minstrels return to their ‘special’ church and enhance the Medieval Fayre of St John and recreate the ancient tradition.
