Grimethorpe Colliery Band

Sat 10th November 2007 at 7.30pm at Chester Cathedral

Brass Band Champions of Great Britain come to Chester. The Kelsborrow Choir that is based in Chester will be hosting the Grimethorpe Colliery Band at a Concert in Chester Cathedral. The choir consists of over 50 mixed voices who are regular performers in the area and a major supporter of local Charities. The Grimethorpe Colliery Band became Internationally known when they featured in the film Brassed Off, about the fictional struggle of a Colliery Band during the Countrywide Pit Closure programme to win the title of UK National Champions. Subsequently the Band has received two gold discs in Great Britain and a gold disc in Australia for sales of the soundtrack - a just reward for the quality of their performance. They are the current National Brass Band Champions of Great Britain and will be the UK Representative at the European Championships to be held in Stavanger in 2008. Grimethorpe Colliery Brass Band together with the Black Dyke Mills Band were the first Brass Bands to perform in the Henry Wood Promenade Concerts at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

The Grimethorpe Colliery Band have not visited Chester for over 20 years. Charity Masked Ball Chester

A masked ball to raise cash to buy mobility equipment for disabled children is being held in a final bid to raise £7,000 for Whizz Kidz Charity. The evening will include a four course meal, big prize raffle, casino tables - blackjack and roulette - as well as live entertainment and late night disco.
