Silk Opera are delighted to present Haydn's Il Mondo della Luna, a delicious mixture of satire, comedy and science fiction.
Il Mondo della Luna, using a popular libretto by Goldoni is a typical comic opera tale of a rich old man, Buonafede (“good faith”) opposed to the marriage of his two daughters and their maid to the three impecunious men they love, with the sly twist that he has a hobby: astronomy.

Buonafede is tricked by one of the suiters into drinking a potion that makes him believe, in his drugged state, that he has been transported to the moon. There on the moon he is fooled into giving up his daughters and maid to the suitors, only to wake up too late to realise his mistake. The suitors, daughters and maid in the short third act are, of course, forgiven and the opera ends joyously
