St. John's Week

20 - 27 June 2010
John The Baptist, Chester
The week begins with a Gala Concert on 20th given by the St John's Festival Orchestra and featuring the world famous pianist Panos Karan who will perform the Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No 2, followed by light classics by Strauss, Suppe and Puccini.

During the week at various times (see Notice Board in Church) there will be conducted tours and talks on this, the oldest Church in Chester and its Cathedral from 1075 to 1541.

On Saturday 26th St John's and the Grosvenor Museum combine to give a medieval flavour to the Minstrels Court and St John's Midsummer Fayre. Licences will be given to Minstrels to perform, first granted in the early twelfth century. St John's will also receive from Henry Owen John, Regional Director of English Heritage, on behalf of the NW Faith Tourism Association, the Marque of Excellence as one of the prime Tourist sites in the NW of England.
